Getting Connected
This chapter tells you how you can get your device connected through a
variety of ways.
Types of Connections
Your device can connect to the Internet, to your computer, and to other
devices and services.
Your device has two groups of connection settings:
My ISP
and
My Work
Network
. My ISP settings connect your device to the Internet, and My Work
Network settings connect to any private network, such as an intranet that
you use at work.
The following types of connections are available on your device:
Cellular (GPRS)
is a long-distance wireless data connection that is
available through some mobile service operators. (Select models only)
Dial-up
lets you access the Internet or a corporate network by dialing a
phone number. (Select models only)
Wi-Fi
lets you wirelessly connect your device to the Internet through
access points that can be up to 30 meters (about 100 feet) away.
Bluetooth
lets you create a temporary wireless network that can link up
to eight devices that are within 10 meters (about 33 feet) of one
another.
