8 Support and slide the extension cylinder out of
the pivot end of the inner tube. Place the
cylinder on blocks for support.
During removal, the overhead
crane strap will need to be
carefully adjusted for proper
balancing.

Primary Boom Lift Cylinder
The primary boom lift cylinder raises and lowers
the primary boom.
How to Remove the Primary
Boom Lift Cylinder
This procedure requires specific
repair skills, lifting equipment and
a suitable workshop. Attempting
this procedure without these skills
and tools may result in death or
serious injury and significant
component damage. Dealer
service is strongly recommended.
1 Remove the two function manifold side
turntable covers. Support the primary boom lift
cylinder with a lifting device.
2 Tag, disconnect and plug the primary boom lift
cylinder hydraulic hoses and cap the fittings on
the lift cylinder.
Bodily injury hazard. Spraying
hydraulic oil can penetrate and
burn skin. Loosen hydraulic
connections very slowly to allow
the oil pressure to dissipate
gradually. Do not allow oil to squirt
or spray.
3 Support the rod end of the cylinder with a lifting
strap from an overhead crane.
4 Remove the pin retainer from the primary boom
lift cylinder rod-end pin. Then use a soft metal
drift to remove the pin.
5 Lower the rod end of the cylinder onto the
turntable counterweight.
Crushing hazard. When the rod-
end pivot pin is removed, the
primary boom lift cylinder may
become unbalanced and fall if it is
not properly supported.
6 Attach the strap from the overhead crane to the
barrel end of the cylinder.
7 Remove the pin retainer from the pivot pin at
the barrel-end of the primary boom lift cylinder
and remove the pin.
8 Place a rod through the barrel-end pivot pin
and twist to remove the pin.
Crushing hazard. When the
barrel-end pivot pin is removed,
the primary boom lift cylinder may
become unbalanced and fall if it is
not properly supported.
9 Carefully remove the primary boom lift cylinder
from the machine.
Component damage hazard. Be
sure not to damage the
counterbalance valve block on the
barrel end of the primary boom lift
cylinder.
