Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting
Always verify the above requirements, as well as connectors and power
to the devices before undertaking any in-depth network troubleshooting.
Listed below are some possible symptoms with suggested resolutions.
Symptom
Possible Cause
Remedy
Computer unable to
connect to the client bridge
during configuration or a
password prompt appears
while entering
configuration.
Firewall software (i.e. BlackICE)
may be preventing access to
client bridge when running the
Symbol configuration utility.
Change the Firewall software service from Automatic to Manual and
reboot your laptop.
1. Right-click on My Computer.
2. Select Manage.
3. Double-click Services and Applications.
4. Double-click Services.
5. Double-click BlackICE or other installed Firewall software.
6. Change Startup type from Automatic to Manual.
7. Reboot laptop.
8. Run the Symbol configuration Utility to configure the Client Bridges
per the MobileLink install instructions.
9. When completed, change BlackICE form Manual to Automatic
using the above directions and then select Start to start the Service.

Improper information provided
by hospital IT Dept.
If configurations match on both sides, you should verify the
information provided by the hospital IT department to make sure that it
is accurate. Here are some possible factors that could affect
communications:
1. Improper Gateway Address - would not allow proper routing.
2. Improper Subnet Mask information - would not allow enough IP
Addresses or could conflict with routing.
3. Duplicate IP Address - would cause a conflict if another device on
the network has the same address.
4. Incorrect Encryption Key - would not allow the Client Bridge to
associate with the Access Point.
5. Wireless authentication issues - if the hospital has hardware in
place that will not allow the IP Address/MAC Address of the client
bridge to gain access to the wired network.
Although most of these issues should be addressed during the pre-
installation consultation that we provide to the customer, please be
aware that new issues can arise during the installation because of
infrastructure or personnel changes that have taken place.
Incorrect configuration.
1. Verify whether or not the setup was previously working.
2. Check the configuration based on the configuration basics above.
Important factors include the following:
Serial Communication: COM Port, Baud Rate, Stop Bits, etc.
Networking: IP Address and Listening Port.
Modem Setup: Modem number matching CSI Service, CSI
Service properly installed, Modem properly configured.
If the setup was not previously working, you will need to go through
the entire setup procedure to configure both sides.
