4.2.3
Copper Switched 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet Ports
The
GBX24
provides
up
to
24
ports
of
10/100/1000BaseT
to
the
backplane,
depending
on
the
build
variant.
These
ports
are
auto

negotiating
and
auto
‐
MDI/MDIX,
so
no
cross

cables
are
required.
The
GBX24PIO
backplane
module
provides
the
24
ports
via
RJ

45
harmonica
jacks.
4.2.4
Optional Fiber Switched Ethernet Ports
As
a
build
option
on
build
levels
1
to
3
only,
copper
gigabit
ports
9,
11,
15
and
17
can
be
converted
to
Fiber
ports
accessible
via
the
front
panel.
Unlike
copper
connections,
various
types
of
fiber
optic
cables
can
be
used.
See
the
in
Appendix
A
for
more
details.
NOTE
On-board optics can be made available on build levels 4 and 5 on request. However, see the section
in Appendix A for caveats.
4.2.5
I/O Modules
For
development
systems,
connection
to
the
Ethernet
and
Serial
ports
can
be
achieved
using
GEIP‘s
I/O
modules.
These
bring
the
signals
from
the
P0
and
P2
backplane
connectors
to
industry

standard
connectors.
The
procedure
for
their
use
is
described
below.
NOTE
Use of the GBX24PIO backplane transition module requires that P0 must be through-hole connected
to the rear plug area.
The
following
items
are
required:
•
The
GBX24
•
A
transition
module
(GBX24PIO),
which
converts
the

the
P0
and

NOTE
This connection may be routed via a 10BTX600 breakout panel, in which case a further RJ-45 to
RJ-45 straight-through patch cable for 10BaseT is required. One cable connects the
management port to the 10BTX600 and the other connects the 10BTX600 to the network.
