Power and Alarm Connection Wiring
Standard AC power supplies provide 60 watts and are available in universal (110/230) VAC. A 130
watts AC power supply is also available. DC power supplies provide 50 watts and are available in –48
VDC, –24 VDC, and +24 VDC versions. One is always included. A second of the same capacity may be
added. The DCS-9500 is 60 watts AC-powered only with no redundancy.
The second power supply module, if installed, provides power supply redundancy if the main power
supply fails. The redundant supply automatically comes online with no loss of transmission. The first
power supply is inserted into the main power supply slot, and if used, the redundant power supply is
inserted into the redundant power supply slot.
3.4.5.1 CrossConnect Power Requirements Determination
Table 3-13 shows how much power the modules in a CrossConnect Server draw. To use the table,
write down the number of modules of each type in the chassis in the Quantity column. Multiply the
quantity by the power consumption to determine the total power consumption for all modules of that
type. When you are finished, add up all the totals to determine the total power consumption for the
chassis.

* These modules have no active components and therefore draw no power.
** Included in the input power requirement for the CM-5 common module.
† This depends on the type and number of channel modules in the system. Each channel module’s
manual section on power gives the module’s power requirements.
†† If total power consumption exceeds 50 watts, the 100-watt power supplies are required. If total
power consumption exceeds 35 watts, the optional 100-watt power supplies are recommended.
Table 3-14 defines the power and alarm terminals on the DCS-9530, DCS-9560 and DCS-9565 and
lists the equivalent connection points on a DCS-9500 (these equivalents are pins of the DB-15 alarms
