APPENDIX D: Field Installation instructions for Slot C module
(for 3-inch and 5.5-inch wide modular PCB)
The following procedures are only to be performed by a qualified (factory
trained & certified) service technician.
Caution: Make sure that all power and data sources are disconnected from
the unit prior to installing or removing the Slot C port module.
Note: Proper electro-static discharge (ESD) measures must be used when
handling port modules, which (like most electronic sub-assemblies) are sensitive
and subject to damage by static electricity.
Tools Required:
1
#1 Phillips head screwdriver
1
1/4” Nut Driver
1
ESD Wrist strap or equivalent
6KLx Module Kit:
A Magnum 6KL-Series Port Module kit comes in an anti-static bag containing:
1.
6KLx module board (1)
2.
Matching module faceplate panel (1)
3.
5/8” standoffs (4), or (6) for 5.5” PCB
4.
#4-40 x 3/16” Flat Head screws (6)
5.
Labels (as required, if any)
Step 1: 6KL case cover / Slot C panel removal
Wear an ESD wrist strap for grounding before starting these procedures.
a. Remove qty. 4 screws securing the 6KL cover to the case (2 top, 2 rear)
and discard screws.
b. Slide 6KL cover back (approx. 1/2”) to disengage from case.
c. Lift off cover to expose the 6KL interior. See also the photo 1d below.
d. Remove existing Slot C panel by removing qty. 2 screws securing Slot C
panel to case, and set aside the Slot C panel and these 2 screws.
Step 2: Prepare Slot C to accept module
a. Add new Slot C panel, included with kit, to the location vacated
by Step 1d. Tighten with minimal force (5 in-lbs. max.)
b. Remove qty. 4 (qty. 6 for 5.5” PCB) screws from Main PCB.
c. Install qty. 4 (qty. 6 for 5.5” PCB) standoffs, included with kit, into the
locations vacated by Step 2b. Tighten with minimal force (5 in-lbs. max.)
Step 3: Install module
a. Locate the module connector on the main board. Grasp the module and
guide it from the interior into the Slot C panel at a slight angle to avoid
damaging the module connector and the main PCB module connector.
b. Align the module connector and the Main PCB connector. (Connectors
are multi-pin, beige in color) After alignment is made, push the module
carefully with minimal force, down, to fully mate with the main PCB.
c. Install qty. 4 (qty. 6 for 5.5” PCB) screws (from Step 2b) into the stand-offs
to secure the module.
d. Re-install 6KL case cover (torque case cover screws to 5 in-lbs. max.)
See the illustrations below for additional visual information on the overall process.
