2.5.1.1. Back kick
The contact of the point of the blade can
in certain cases cause a sudden back kick,
propelling the blade back up towards the
user. This normally happens when the tip of
the blade comes into contact with an object
when the machine is running. The contact of the chain
on the tip of the blade can cause an unpredictable
force that can push the blade back towards the end
user. This can cause the loss of control and can cause
severe personal damages.
2.5.1.2. Forward pull
Should the chain get tangled or get caught by the
wood, it will pull the end user forward.
The chain
when it loses speed or comes to a standstill will pull
the machine forward and could cause a loss of control
and possible severe personal damages.
To avoid this “pull-forward” to start the cut at full
throttle and always maintain machine at top speed for
cutting and support the grip of the chainsaw against
the wood to be cut.
2.5.1.3. Back pull
If the top part of the chain and blade become
imprisoned in the wood, it can cause a back pull and
the blade could rebound backwards towards the user.
The chain when imprisoned or at a standstill and if the
machine is not properly fixed to the wood by the claw
can cause loss of control of the machine and severe
damage to the user.
Any of these reactions can cause a loss of control of
the saw and could cause severe corporal damage. Do
not only rely on the security measures of the machine.
As user of the machine, take the necessary measures
to eliminate the risk of accident and/or personal injury
when cutting with the machine.
These forces occur due to an improper use of the
machine and/or because of the incorrect interpretation
of the instruction manual and can be avoided by
following these simple instructions:
Hold the machine firmly with both hands with your
fingers and thumbs closing on the handle and place
your body and arms so that you can avoid any danger
from any of the above mentioned unpredictable
forces. These unpredictable forces can be avoided by
the user if adequate precautions are taken by the user.
Never let go of the machine.
Do not overstretch your arms or cut above shoulder
level. This will help to avoid involuntary contacts
of the point of the bar and chain and will allow
a better control of the machine in unpredictable
circumstances.
- Always control where the tip of the bar is when
working.
- Ensure the tip of the bar does not touch any object.
- Do not cut branches with the tip of the bar.
- Make sure that there is no metal pieces of any
sort in the cutting area and pay special attention to
metal parts near or close to the working and
cutting area. Also, be careful when cutting hard
woods as the chain could get caught and come
to a standstill thus increasing the risk of the above
mentioned unpredictable forces.
- Start cutting with the machine at full throttle and
maintain this full throttle during the duration of the
cutting work.
- Only cut one branch or piece of wood at a time.
- Be extremely careful when introducing the chain - -
- into a cut that has already been started.
- Do not start cutting until familiarised with basic
cutting techniques.
