7.2. SHARPENING THE CHAIN
The chain loses its sharpness whilst working. If you
observe any of the following symptons it is time to
sharpen the machines chain:
• More effort is needed to be able to cut.
• The cut is not straight.
• Vibrations increase.
• When cutting, instead of the log splitting, you see
small shavings.
To sharpen the chain follow instruction in point 8.2
sharpening the chain.
7.3. CUTTING WITH THE MACHINE
We recommend that you first train cutting small
branches in an easy position so as to achieve
expereience before moving onto more complicated
cutting techniques.
Always follow all security norms described in this
manual.
Only use this machine to cut wood. It is strictly
prohibited to cut any other material with this machine.
Do not use this machine to move objects.
Whilst cutting use the machine delicately. Only provide
a small pressure downwards but with the machine
at full throttle. The weight of the machine will be
sufficient to cut.
If the machine gets tangled, do not pull at it whilst the
machine is switched on. Stop the machine and use a
wedge to free the machine.
7.3.1. FELLING A TREE
Felling a tree is dangerous as branches or/and the
tree can fall on top of the end user.
To fell a tree follow the following
steps:
1. Decide in which direction you
want the tree to fall (A). Take
into account the inclination of
the tree, the length of the branches and that these
could change direction when falling.
2. Verify that there are no other trees, branches or
obstacles onto which the felled tree could fall onto.
3. Check the final position of the tree so as to cut
properly.
4. Clean up the working area and the area onto which
the tree will fall and clearly mark an escape route
in case the tree does not fall in the expected
direction. The security distance should be at least
twice that of the height of the tree.
5. Cut some branches first. Start with the bottom
branches that could difficult your work. Remember
not to cut those branches above shoulder level.
6. So as to guide the fall of the tree, do a guided cut
(B). To do this guided cut, cut at a 60 angle until
you cut into the log some 25% of the width of the
trunk. This cut must be done on the side to which
the tree will fall (E). After this, do a further 35 cut
that ends up matching the 60 cut, thus obtaining a
95 angle as shown in the attached diagram.
7. Start a horizontal cut in the opposite side some
3 cm above the interior angle of the guided cut (B).
