The output power and efficiency with an EMI filter are shown in Figure 23. This PA design delivers 90%
efficiency at 100W output power and 31V
DC
input voltage. This efficiency performance is lower than the
one of without EMI filter due to the insertion and mismatch loss from the EMI filter. The design of EMI
filter is
optimal at 30 Ω, but the data is taken at 50
Ω.

The SEEK thermal camera photo of the PA is depicted in Figure 24. The thermal performance with EMI
filter is very impressive. The hottest points of the circuit are the two 2
nd
harmonics shunt inductors which
have a temperature rise of 35˚C.
The temperature rise of the GaN devices is a modest 3
˚
C.
