5. ANOMALIES. PROBABLE CAUSES. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
SYMPTOM. ANOMALY
PROBABLE CAUSE.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION.
GENERAL PROBLEM.
NOTHING WORKS.
The machine lacks voltage to some or
all of its vital elements.
Check that there is voltage at the input of the machine;
if not, check if there is a tripped circuit breaker or
repair the socket or the supply hose.
Faulty ON/OFF switch.
Replace ON/OFF switch.
Loose connector.
Tighten connectors correctly.
LIMITER JUMPS.
Magneto-thermal switch rating too
low for the case. There may be a
short-circuit which causes the limiter to
trip.
Replace the circuit breaker with a suitable one. If
the electrical installation is of limited power, try
welding at lower current levels.
THE EQUIPMENT
MAKES "NOISE".
Loose metal housing.
Check and tighten the housing.
Faulty electrical connections.
Tighten the connections correctly.
Damaged or improperly fastened fan. Check fan.
EQUIPMENT ON, BUT
DOES NOT WELD.
OVER-TEMPERATURE
INDICATOR
LIGHTED.
Indicator
illuminated.
The high temperature protection
system has been activated.
Overheated equipment, wait for it to cool down.
Do not turn it off, let the fan run.
ELECTRODE BURNS IN
TIG WELDING
Excessive welding current for a given
electrode.
Reduce welding current or replace electrode with
one of larger diameter.
Use of reverse polarity.
Attach the electrode to the negative pole.
Lack of shielding gas.
Regulate gas at an adequate flow rate.
ABNORMAL HEATING
IN THE EQUIPMENT.
THERMAL PROTECTION
IS FAST-ACTING
Equipment positioned in such a way
as to prevent proper ventilation.
Place the equipment in a ventilated area.
The fan does not work.
Replace fan.
Equipment in a very warm
environment.
Protect from direct sun exposure.
There is a loose connection internally. Check electrical power connections.
POOR WELD SEAM
QUALITY
Defective electrode
Change electrode.
LOW WELDING
CURRENT
Problem in cables or connections.
Check cables and solder connections.
Earth clamp far away from the point to be
welded or rusted or painted part.
Bring the earth clamp close to the point to be welded.
Clean rust or remove paint.
Low input voltage.
Repair the socket or the supply hose.
INTERVENTION ON THE EQUIPMENT MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY SPECIALISED PERSONNEL.
BOTH AT THE BEGINNING AND AT THE END OF A REPAIR CHECK THE INSULATION LEVELS OF THE
EQUIPMENT. DISCONNECT ELECTRONIC BOARDS WHEN MEASURING INSULATION.
BLOW COMPRESSED AIR INTO THE EQUIPMENT.
The insulation tester shall have a voltage of 500 V DC and shall be applied at the following points of the circuit:
- Power supply - Earth: Ra > 50 MOhm.
- Welding - Earth: Ra > 50 MOhm.
- Power - Welding: Ra > 50 MOhm.
BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE EQUIPMENT, CHECK THAT IT IS EMPTY.
DO NOT OPERATE THE ON/OFF SWITCH WITH AN ELECTRICAL LOAD
ATTACHED TO THE WELDING CONNECTORS.
