SMARTSTART User Guide 7
© Fusion Sport Pty Ltd, 2011, All Rights Reserved
With your SMARTSPEED drill running in RFID mode, after pressing GO on the PDA, the first light unit in each
lane will begin to flash a green rotating light. This indicates that the SMARTSTART units are ready to receive an
RFID wrist band. One athlete in each lane must place their band against the front of the SMARTSTART unit, and
upon a successful scan the SMARTSTART will beep, and the green light will disappear from the next flashing
unit. When all lanes have been registered successfully, the drill will begin, based on the start delay settings you
have set on the options tab. For more detailed information on the use of RFID, please consult the SMARTSCAN
user manual on the Fusion Sport website support area.
SCENARIO 4: COMBINATION START GATE/RFID READER
In this scenario, SMARTSTART can be used as both the start gate and a wireless RFID reader, in either single or
multiple lane modes, by connecting a hand start plunger, hand start pad, start strip, SMARTSHOXX or
SMARTJUMP mat to the PS2 input port on the SMARTSTART unit. In multiple lane mode, one SMARTSTART is
required for each lane, and is used to replace a gate unit with SMARTSCAN reader (and PS2 accessory)
attached.
NOTE – this is the most common use of SMARTSTART for standard timing such as a 10-40 sprint.

With SMARTSTART the timing will start when the PS2 device is triggered
2.
Mat/Switch up
– timing starts when the athlete lifts their hand/foot OFF the
start mat or hand start pad (note – a start pad or other switch must be
connected to the SMARTSTART)
3.
Mat/Switch down
– timing starts when the athlete steps ON to the start mat or
start switch (note – a start pad or other switch must be connected to the
SMARTSTART)
4.
In beam/mat start
– the athlete stands or presses down on the start pad or
jump mat, and after 3 seconds the SMARTSTART becomes activated (it will emit
a buzzer sound). Timing starts when the athlete leaves the start pad or other
switch.
