transformer minimizes magnetic leakage, but nevertheless, due to its high capacity, it may radiate a small magnetic field. Therefore,
we recommend that it not be positioned adjacent to sensitive, low level signal processors, especially mic preamps, mixers, tape
recorders, etc. Power amps may be more suitable “rack neighbors.”
The maximum benefit derived from balanced power is when it powers ALL equipment in an installation. Therefore, try to position the
P-2300 IT E in a central location so its power can be easily distributed everywhere it’s needed. If the total power consumption of all
equipment exceeds 10 amps at 220-240 volts, delete high level or mechanical devices first (such as power amps, motors).
If possible, physically isolate any equipment that has to be powered with conventional power through a different circuit, and route AC
cords away from all other cabling. The balanced power produced by the P-2300 IT E is restricted to use with electronic equipment only.
Balanced power may not be used for lighting equipment, and access must be limited to use by qualified personnel only.
Rear Rack Mounting:
If you are installing the P-2300 IT E in a rack that has rear as well as front mounting rails, you may easily secure it to the rear of
your rack. Simply remove the securing screws from the side and front portions of the P-2300 IT E’s adjustable rear rack ear and
reinforcement side plate (located on either chassis side), reverse it and re-attach to the P-2300 IT E chassis. (See Figure 1.a, page 12)
Inlet AC Cord Security Clamp:
The Furman P-2300 IT E’s AC cord is supplied with a two piece security clamp. Though not required for reliable operation, it is supplied
for extreme environments where road shock during transport might unseat the IEC connector. The two piece chrome wire security
clamp (located In the AC cord bag) is easily attached to the threaded holes on either side of the AC inlet, and can be installed in
seconds with a standard Phillips screw driver. (See Figure 1.b, page 13)
OPERATION
Switchable Voltage and True RMS Current Meter:
Furman’s laboratory precision AC digital voltmeter continually measures incoming voltages within a typical tolerance of +/-2.0VAC. It
should be noted that the voltage reading is incoming.
Furman’s laboratory precision True RMS digital current meter continually measures the total circuit AC load, within a typical tolerance
of +/- 0.5 amps. Because these meters feature true RMS technology, the current readings are accurate regardless of load conditions
(capacitive, inductive, or resistive). To switch between voltage and current, press the button labeled “Line Voltage/Current”. Hold this
button down for two seconds to dim the brightness of the display.
Voltage Range Indicator:
This indicator is located in the lower left corner of the digital volt / amp meter assembly lens. When AC voltage is within 216 to 244
VAC, the tri-color indicator will be green (optimal). However, if the voltage is between 205 to 215VAC, or between 245 to 255VAC, the
indicator will turn amber (caution - not optimal). If the incoming voltage is in an extreme range (below 205 or above 255), the indica
-
tor will turn red. This range is far from optimal, and may be potentially damaging to some equipment.
Ground Fault Interrupter (GFCI):
The Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) inside the P-2300 IT E is a special kind of circuit breaker that detects an imbalance in the
current flowing into the two hot legs. The “missing” current is presumed to be flowing through the ground conductor (the center pin
off each IEC AC outlet).
Ground current often indicates a dangerous partial or full short circuit. If an imbalance is detected, the GFCI trips and cuts off power
not only to itself, but to all the P-2300 IT E outlets. If this occurs, the magnetic circuit breaker / power switch located on the front panel
will trip – removing power to all AC outlets and the meters. To restore operation, correct the fault and switch the power to “1” or “on”.
You may test the proper operation of the GFCI at any time by simulating a ground fault by pushing the button marked “GFCI Test” on
the rear panel. If the GFCI is working properly, this will cause the front panel power switch to trip, and all power from the P-2300 IT E’s
meters and AC outlets will cease. You may restore operation after a GFCI test, by switching the power switch to the “1” position.
Ultra-Low Resistance Magnetic Power Switch / Circuit Breaker:
Furman’s P-2300 IT E 10 amp capacity power switch / breaker is specifically designed to stand up to the enormous high in-rush current
demands of many power amplifiers. Additionally, Furman magnetic circuit breakers are not sensitive to temperature, nor do they raise
the AC impedance as many less costly thermal breakers will do. If the 10 amp RMS current capacity of the P-2300 IT E is exceeded, the
spring tensioned switch will immediately switch to the off position. You will need to switch the toggle back to the “on” or “1” position
once the problem is corrected (typically by eliminating one component or until the RMS current does not exceed 10 amps or 2300
watts).
