This chapter contains an overview of the steps you need to carry out to install
your server blade in the basic unit. The links take you to the sections containing
detailed descriptions of the individual steps.
I
You will find the information you need to install and start up the basic unit
in the "PRIMERGY BX600 S3 Basic Unit - Operating Manual".
Ê
First read the
chapter “Important notes”
from
page 25
, particularly the
section “Safety instructions”
.
Ê
Unpack the server blade, check the contents of the package for visible
transport damage and that the items delivered correspond to the details on
the delivery note (see the section
section “Unpacking the server blade” on
page 34
).
Ê
Familiarize yourself with the controls and indicators on the front of the
server blade (see
chapter “Installation and operation” on page 43
).
Ê
Install the operating system and applications on the server blade.
When doing so, you have the following options:
–
Clone server blade from a remote image server using RemoteDeploy.
This procedure is recommended if the following conditions are met:
–
The RemoteDeploy software is available.
–
You have a suitable clone image.
–
A Deployment Server and LAN connection are available.
–
Remote installation with the ServerView Installation Manager:
This installation method is recommended if you have a LAN connection
and a DHCP server (Deployment Server) available, but the cloning
requirements are not met.
–
Local installation with or without the ServerView Installation Manager
Local installation is the least convenient method. It is only recommended
if the requirements for remote installation and cloning are not met.
If you want to install an operating system that is not supported by the
ServerView Installation Manager, you can of course install it directly
without the ServerView Installation Manager.
