controls how the camera selects the focus area
when Intelligent Face Detection is off (pg. 22). Re-
gardless of the option selected, the camera will
focus on the subject in the center of the monitor
when macro mode is on (pg. 27).

CENTER
: The camera fo-
cuses on the subject in the
center of the frame. This
option can be used with
focus lock.

MULTI
: When the shutter button is pressed
halfway, the camera detects high-contrast sub-
jects near the center of the frame and selects
the focus area automatically (if the focus frame is
not displayed, select

AREA
: The focus posi-
tion can be chosen manu-
ally by pressing the selector
up, down, left, or right and
pressing
MENU/OK
when
the focus brackets are in the desired position.
Choose for precise focus when the camera is
mounted on a tripod. Note that exposure is set
for the subject in the center of the frame; to me-
ter an off -center subject, use AF/AE lock (pg. 24).
