Check compensating currents (shunt currents)
Compensating currents ("shunt currents" according to EN 62135-1 ) are currents that flow
parallel to the standard "Electrode - Workpiece - Electrode" current flow during welding.
They can occur if the workpiece has any form of earth connection.
Check MPE bridges
This check is required when using the "direct PE conductor connection" safety measure.
DANGER! Compensating currents can render the "direct PE conductor connec-
tion" safety measure ineffective, even if the MPE bridge is installed correctly. A
failure of insulation (primary/secondary circuit) can therefore be life-threatening.
If compensating currants cannot be avoided when using the "direct PE conductor
connection" safety measure, additional safety measures complying with EN
62135-1 are required.
DANGER! Inadmissibly high contact voltages are possible. A non-functioning
MPE bridge renders the "direct PE conductor connection" safety measure ineffec-
tive. A failure of insulation (primary/secondary circuit) can therefore be life-threat-
ening.
Do not start a system with "direct PE conductor connection" if the check revealed
any problems.
