B.6.7. What happens if my wireless device (laptop, PSP...) doesn’t connect automa-
tically or if I have a static IP?

If your router’s DHCP server is disabled, it’s possible that you are using a static 
IP. That may be the reason why your wireless device (laptop, PSP...) doesn’t con-
nect automatically. The difference between a dynamic IP and a static IP is that the 
former will be automatically assigned to your router (by the DHCP server), and 
the latter is defined to remain fixed. If this is your case, you’ll need to make some 
manual changes to your configuration. If you’re not sure whether your IP is static 
or not, follow these steps:

1.

 Click Start>Connect to>Show all connections.

2.

 Now you’ll find two options. If you use a cable to connect, you’ll have to double 

click the Local Area Connection icon to show the Status dialog box for that con-
nection. If you use a WiFi connection, you should double click the Wireless Net-
work Connection icon. Then, click the Properties button.

3. 

You’ll see a screen with the properties of your connection. Double click Internet 

Protocol (TCP/IP).
