TO TURN OFF GAS 

TO APPLIANCE

1.  Turn control knob clockwise 

 to the 

OFF position.

2a. Set switch in the OFF position.

If Using Optional Hand-Held Remote: 

Set selector switch in the OFF position to 

prevent draining battery. 

3.  Close equipment shutoff valve (see Figure 

15, page 15).

After  lighting,  let  pilot  flame  burn  for  about 

one minute. Turn control knob to ON position.

patterns often.

PILOT FLAME PATTERN

Figure 33 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. 

Figure 34 shows an incorrect pilot flame pat

-

tern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching 

the thermocouple. This will cause the thermo-

couple to cool. When the thermocouple cools, 

the heater will shut down.

If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown 

in Figure 34

Note: The pilot flame on natural gas units will 

have a slight curve, but flame should be blue 

and have no yellow or orange color.

INSPECTING bURNERS

Note: The burner may light if hand-held re-

mote was on when selector switch was last 

turned off. You can now turn burner on and off 

with hand-held remote control unit.

 

IMPORTANT: 

Do not leave selector switch in 

the REMOTE or ON position when pilot is not 

lit. This will drain the battery.

Note: Do not hold hand-held remote for a long 

time. Body temperature will affect its operation 

in the AUTO mode.
