NB:
This means that neglecting to follow instructions
can result in personal injury.
WARNING: For the sake of your own safety, avoid
using the drill before it is properly mounted and set
up in accordance with the instructions and until
you have read and understood the following.
1. General safety instructions for machine tools
2. Get to know your machine
3. Basic operation
4. Settings
5. Maintenance
6. Machine stability. If the pillar drilling machine dis
-
plays the slightest tendency to tip or move during
use, it should be fixed to the bench or floor. If the
work-piece is too short to hold by hand, extra sup
-
port should be used.
7. Premises. Use the drilling machine in well lit sur
-
roundings and place it on a clean even surface
in order to avoid slipping and falls. Place the
machine so that the user or another person is not
standing in the path of any throw-back.
8. Throw-back. Throw-back means that the work-
piece gets jammed in the rotating tool and is flung
with great speed in the direction of rotation. This
can cause serious injury. The risk of throw-back
is diminished if you: Fix the work-piece firmly to
the table where possible. Use only recommended
accessories and follow the instructions supplied
with these.
9. Safety for eyes, hands, face, ears and body.
WARNING: Avoid getting stuck in the spindle
by:
1. Not using:
- gloves
- scarves
- loose fitting clothes
- jewellery
2. Tie up long hair
a. If any part of the pillar drilling machine (motor
circuit breaker or some other operating mecha
-
nism, safety device or current cable, for example)
is not functioning, is missing, has been damaged
or broken, close down the machine and disconnect
it until the fault has been repaired or changed.
b. Keep fingers away from the place where they
might come into contact with the drill or other
cutting tools if you should slip or if the work-piece
should move.
c. In order to avoid injury caused by parts which are
flung from the spring, carefully follow the instruc
-
tions in the section which deals with adjustment of
the spring tension of the barrel.
d. In order to avoid the work-piece ripping from your
hands and revolving, breaking the tool or being
flung away, make sure to set up a support under the
work-piece so that it does not move or get caught
in the tool:
- Always position the drilling plate (under the work-
piece) so that it is placed up against the left side of
the pillar.
- If possible, position the work-piece so that it is
placed up against the left side of the pillar. If the
piece is too short, or if the table is slanting, the
work-piece should be fixed to the table. Use the
slots and the fixing edges of the table.
- Any vice should always be fixed to the table.
- Do not work free-handedly (freehanded work
means holding the work-piece in your hands rather
than supporting it on the table). This does not
apply when polishing.
- Lock the head and the table support to the pillar
and the table to the table support before it is turned
on.
- Never touch the head or the table when the machi
-
ne is on.
- Turn the switch on and off before you begin wor
-
king with the machine in order to make sure that
the drill or other cutting tool is not wriggling or
causing vibrations.
- If a work-piece extends outside the table in such a
way that there is a risk of it falling or tipping if you
are not holding it, you need to secure it or support
it.
- Different fixtures may be required for some jobs;
in order to hold and guide the work-piece.
- Work with the spindle speed that is recommended
for the specific job and material.
You find the speed recommendations on the inside
of the belt casing. When it comes to accessories,
see the instruction supplied with these.
e. Do not step on the table of the drilling machine. It
can break or tip the entire drilling machine on top
of you.
f. Shut off the motor circuit breaker and remove the
key before leaving the machine.
g. In order to avoid injury caused by work-pieces
being slung away or coming into contact with the
machine, NO arranging or assemblage may be
done on the table while the tool is rotating.
10. Only use accessories which are intended for use
with this drill , in order to avoid serious injury
caused by thrown, broken parts or work-pieces.
