Some gases, like hydrogen sulfide (H

S) or
ammonia (NH
3
), can affect the sensing
capability of a sensor and irreversibly poison
the sensor.
Discontinuous Measurement vs Continuous
Measurement
Under these circumstances, the solution is to
measure in discontinuous mode. Using the
instrument in this manner will result in a longer
sensor lifetime, which otherwise would be
shortened to a few or even one month when
measuring continuously.
Example of discontinuous measurements:
Trigger mode measurement with a
repeat timer interval set to three
minutes
Interleaving measurement in
continuous mode as follows:
o
3-7 min measurement or target
air
o
10-30 min purging with fresh air
