The key ob j ect iv e of a s it e eva lu ation or study is to place the Fan Turbine so energy
generated from the wi nd i s max imi zed w hile meeting the loca l zoning requirements. Key
elements to focus on during the s i te eva lu at i on in c lud e:
1. H igh average wi nd speeds. T he turbine del i vers i ts best energy performance i n areas of high
wi nd speeds. This can best be determ i ned by using s i mp l e anemometers at the i nsta ll at io n
s it e . It i s recommended that such wi nd speed data i s recorded for as l ong a period as possib le
and even better if seve r a l seasons are cons id ered . When th is i s not possible , published
wi nd data can g i ve an est im ate for the ave r age lo cal wi nd speeds. Pub li shed wi nd at l ases
ma y conta in very useful comparative data for a region or a spec i fic locat ion. Ho w ever ,
be very carefu l w hen relying on l y on this inform at i on as such data quite often tends to be
measu r ed at very high altitudes and may not be useful at l o w er and more pract ica l he ight s.
2. As a genera l ru l e i t i s best to i nstall the turbine at the h igh est permissible position
and far r emoved i n proximity to trees and other ad j acent bu i ld i ngs or structu r es.
