You will use a computer to download the binary images and load them onto the
Fairphone 2. You need to know how to use the command line interface. The user data
will not be erased, refer to
the guided tutorial to return to the factory settings
to do so.
Prerequisite:
The
Android Debug Bridge
(ADB) installed and running on the computer
(along the
fastboot
command), refer to
the official Android development guide
for the
installation procedure.
1. Download the ZIP archive containing the binary images to your computer—
the
latest binary images archive available is 1.10.1
(~600MB);

If you experience problems with downloading the update file properly, try a
diferent Internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).
2. Extract the archive content on your computer;
3. Power of the device;
4. Boot the Fairphone 2 into the
bootloader
(also called
fastboot mode
) by holding
the volume down button and the power button simultaneously;

Hold the buttons until the Fairphone logo appears (up to five seconds);
•
While in the bootloader, the phone does not display anything besides the
regular Fairphone logo;
•
You can hold the power button for fifteen seconds (or take the battery out)
to force the device to reboot into the regular operating mode.
5. Connect the Fairphone 2 to your computer;
6. On your computer, execute the update script;

On Windows, open the Command Prompt application, navigate to the
archive content directory and execute the script with the command
flash.bat

On Mac OS X, open the Terminal application (in Utilities), navigate to the
archive content directory and execute the script with the command
sh
flash.sh
;
•
On GNU/Linux, open a terminal emulator, navigate to the archive content
directory and execute the script with the command
sh flash.sh
