• After taking a few measurements, the system can automatically estimate the appropriate depth range for best results.
The
Auto-range OFF
box must be checked in the beginning of the mission.
Uncheck the
Auto-range OFF
to enable the automatic range estimation during the mission.
• The echo signals get weaker with increasing distance to the object. Time Gain Compensation (TGC) is needed
for compensating the attenuation of the echo signal along the depth. The gain needs to increase with depth, as the
signal’s amplitude gets smaller.
The time gain compensation is done by using a compensation curve.
For best performance, leave the default weighting value (200) in the
TGC scale
field and keep the
TGC ON
box
checked. These settings are optimal for most operating conditions.
If you need to adjust the weighting of TGC in complicated operating conditions, you can find the optimal new value
by monitoring the maximum amplitude of the first echo signal in the
Echosounder Diplay
tab.
• The default setting for the depth measurement period
Period, ms
is set to 500 ms (2 measurements per second).
If for a certain area less data samples are required (for example, to reduce the saved data volume), you can increase
the period (in ms) by editing the
Period, ms
field.
• The
Threshold
field (0..1) defines the detection threshold for received echo signals. The default 0.3 setting means,
that the threshold is set at 0.3 (30%) of the maximum received signal amplitude. Weaker signals will not be detected.
In noisy conditions (for example, in the presence of motor boats and other sources of noise) it is recommended to
increase the threshold by editing the corresponding field.
• The correct setting of the sound speed
c, m/s
is required for obtaining accurate depth measurement results.
The system was preconfigured for fresh water at 20
○
C. If the operating conditions differ, enter the correct sound
speed value in the corresponding field.
• The
TD depth, m
defines the depth at which the echosounder is submerged during the mission.
If the vehicle is operated with all battery packs installed, the echousonder is at 0.01 m below the surface. If some
battery packs were removed, the vehicle is lighter - adjust the
TD depth, m
setting by entering the new depth value
into the corresponding field.
