NOTE ON BATTERIES AND ACCUMULATORS
-
Batteries/accumulators have no place in the hands of children.
-
Do not leave the batteries/accumulators lying around in the open; there is a risk
of them being swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor im-
mediately.
-
Leaking or damaged batteries/accumulators can cause acid burns when they
come into contact with skin; therefore, use suitable protective gloves in this case.
-
Batteries/accumulators must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into a fi re.
There is a risk of explosion!
-
Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion! Only
charge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose, use suitable
rechargeable battery chargers.
-
Never mix normal batteries with rechargeable ones. Use either batteries or re-
chargeable batteries.
-
Never mix batteries/accumulators with different states of charge.
-
Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries/accumulators (pay
attention to plus and minus!).
INSERTING/CHANGING BATTERIES
Open the battery compartment on the back and insert two batteries of type AA/
Mignon with the correct polarity.
Immediately after the insertion of the batteries, the radio alarm clock will emit an
audible signal and begin a reception search for the DCF signal (see section "DCF Re-
ception").
Close the battery compartment.
A change of batteries is necessary when the display contrast fades or if the display
no longer shows anything at all.
(
It is possible to use rechargeable batteries. However, the lower voltage out-
put (battery = 1.5V, rechargeable batteries = 1.2V) and the low capacity of the
rechargeable batteries reduce the operating time.
DCF RECEPTION
Immediately after batteries are inserted, the clock makes the fi rst attempt to re-
ceive the DCF signal.
(
The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take 3-5 minutes. Do
not move the radio alarm clock during that time. Do not press any buttons!
A bad reception can be caused by, e.g. metal coated insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete constructions, coated special wallpaper or use in basement
rooms.
If, after fi ve minutes, there is still no current time shown on the display, move
the radio alarm clock to a different location, take out the batteries for a few
seconds, and then put them back in again.
No Reception/Signal Search:
Good
Reception:
The reception search for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time
occurs several times a day (01:00, 02:00, 03:00, 04:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00,
18:00 and 21:00). A single reception search per day is suffi cient to keep the precision
deviation under 1 second.
The DCF signal is transmitted via a transmitter in
1500 km
2000 km
Mainfl ingen (near Frankfurt). Its range is up to 1500
km and, under ideal reception conditions, even up
to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the
precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in a
million years!) and the date.
This means there is no manual setting of summer
and winter time.
PERFORMING DCF RECEPTION SEARCH
To perform a manual search for the DCF signal (e.g., when you have placed the radio
alarm clock in a different place), press and hold the "°C/°F" button for about three
seconds. Afterward, the reception signal at the upper right of the display will begin
to blink. Then wait again for about 3-5 minutes, as described above, until the correct
time is displayed and the reception symbol stops blinking.
MANUALLY SETTING THE TIME
(
This has to be done only if there is no DCF reception possible, e.g. in a base-
ment.
-
First, check the indicator at the lower right of the display. The indoor tempera-
ture must be shown here.
If, for example, the alarm time or the time for a second time zone is displayed in
this position, briefl y press the "MODE" button as many times as necessary until
the indoor temperature is shown once again (e.g. "22.1 °C").
-
Press and hold the "MODE" button as long as necessary (approx. 3 seconds) until
the hours in the display start fl ashing. The reception symbol in the top right will
turn off.
-
The value currently shown can be changed with the "
S
" or "
F
" button. If the
respective button is pressed for a longer period of time, quick adjustment is
performed.
-
With a brief press of the "MODE" button, switch over to set the minutes, the year,
the month and the date. Here, too, use the "
S
" or "
F
" button to enter the desired
value.
-
After you have set the date, press the "MODE" button again to end the set mode.
(
If you wish to allow the DCF time to be displayed again, the DCF reception
search can be started manually. For instructions, see the section "DCF Recep-
tion" above.
SWITCHING 12-H/24-H MODE
If the display is set to a normal time display (and is not, for example, in a setting
mode), briefl y press the "
S
" button to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour modes.
In 12-hour mode, the display "AM" appears to the left next to the hour display during
the fi rst half of the day, the display "PM" during the second half.
SWITCHING ADDITIONAL DISPLAYS
The additional displays to the lower right of the display can be switched between the
indoor temperature, the time of Alarm 1 ("AL1"), the time of Alarm 2 ("AL2"), and the
second time ("DUAL TIME").
Simply press the "MODE" button briefl y multiple times until the desired information
is displayed.
