INSTALLING CABLES TO SHIELDED
ENCLOSURE
When the filtered power supply is used, the fiber optic cables to the
camera assembly, together with the 12V power cable are fed via the
conduit assembly (which enters the power supply’s screened area). A
suitable short-length pair of terminated fiber optic cables are supplied to
connect between the bulkhead connectors in the screened area of the
power supply and the camera assembly.
When the 12V power supply to the camera assembly is to be provided by
a shielded power supply, or shielded battery pack situated inside the
chamber, the fiber optic cables have to be fed through the screened
enclosure wall. This can be achieved using a waveguide or, if there is a
3mm penetration service panel available, using a bulkhead connector.
FEEDING THROUGH SCREEN
ENCLOSURE WALL USING A WAVEGUIDE
There are two waveguide assemblies. One, Part No. F40172, allows
individual fiber optic cables to be fed through the wall, each individual
fiber passing through a single hole in the waveguide.
The other waveguide assembly, Part No. F40172/36, allows duplex
cables (two connectors on one cable), which cannot pass through a
single hole in the F40172 assembly, to be fed through the wall. This
waveguide has a removable center core (such as a fiberplex unit) which
is wide enough to enable the ready-terminated connectors to pass
through. According to the type and performance of the waveguide, it may
be necessary to separate the two fibers by carefully cutting the center
membrane over a length of approximately 125mm to allow each fiber to
be located in a different section of the waveguide. Refer to Figure 6 for
example.
To fit the waveguide, proceed as follows:
1. Cut a hole to clear the waveguide thread (50.8 mm diameter).
2. Clean off the paint for approximately 10mm around the hole on both
sides of the shield.
