Practical handling
The black webbing strap is fastened to a stable part of the bed
frame at the head end.
Attach the glide sleeve to the webbing strap and feed it past
the handles, so that it glides without obstruction.
Positioning
Use
Moving the user higher up in the bed
The user bends his/her legs slightly.
OneManSling is pushed under the user’s legs and is pulled until
the glide sleeve lies against the user’s rear.
The rest of the webbing strap with the handles is fed to the opposite
side of the bed.
The carer moves around to the opposite side of the bed at the
head end. The carer positions a MultiGlide under the user's
pillow and pulls down so that it covers the user's shoulders.
Further glide devices can be added under the user's rear
(and under the legs if the user is not able to bend his/her knees).
The carer stands with one foot forward, grasps one or two of the
handles closest to the user's hip and uses weight transference
(Illustrations 1 and 2).
The procedure can be repeated if necessary.
After manual handling, remove MultiGlide and feed OneManSling
back to the opposite side at the head end, where it can be stored
until the next time.
Legs into bed
Attach OneManSling to a stable part of the bed frame at the foot
end on one of the long sides (the same side as where the user
sits on the edge of the bed).
Feed OneManSling under the user's knees (closest to the foot
end) and around the ankle of the other leg, so that the user's
legs are above OneManSling.
When the user is ready, the carer pulls the OneManSling
handles in the direction of the foot end.
Both of the user's legs are now pulled towards the foot end.
The carer continues to move around the end of the bed
in an arch, ending up at the opposite side of the bed.
There is no need to lift the webbing strap. The carer simply
has to move in an arch around the foot end.
When the carer reaches the foot end on the opposite side,
she/he can continue to pull on the strap until the user’s legs
are in the middle of the bed.
For optimal gliding movement, a Glide Cushion or MultiGlide
can be used at the edge of the bed at the foot end under
OneManSling.
NB! This manual handling must be carried out by two carers
if the user is unable to lay down his/her upper body by
him/herself. The bed headboard can be raised if necessary.
