What is DRM?
DRM, which stands for
Digital Rights Management
, is a technology to restricting the
playback and illegal distribution of legally purchased media. DRM was created on behalf of the
music industry as a whole to allow content owners to determine and control who and how
users can listen and view the media they purchase. There are advantages and disadvantages
to DRM. DRM creates hurdles between music playback hardware (such as a FireBall Music
Server) and the music software you purchase from companies such as Apple, Napster, Sony,
etc…. Any company wishing to produce hardware or software which is compatible with DRM
music files must license and directly support each type of DRM. It is up to the company
distributing the media to grant a license to each individual company that wishes to play their
media. For example, Apple Computer will not provide a license for it’s iTunes Music Store
DRM called “FairPlay” to any third party company. This means that no except Apple can legally
play music purchased from the Apple iTunes Music Store.

Unknowns on Import
In the event that some of your imported music files show up as “Unknown” after being imported
from a PC to the Fireball, this indicates either missing tag information or an unsupported
tagging format or tag version. You will then either need to manually edit this information
manually from the Fireball itself or delete the previously imported music through
Options>Delete Music and verify the process in which you have tagged your music files and
re-import.
Using Windows Media Player to Fix Unknown Files
If you have music files that don’t have the proper ID3 tags, you can use Windows Media Player
to add or correct this. Follow these steps…
Step 1
In order to properly edit your digital music files using Windows Media Player, you must first
import these files into Windows Media Player. To import your music files, select File>Add to
Library and choose one of the provided methods of importing your files.
