(4) Cut the paper roll.
(5) Remove the paper jam while pulling the release lever
toward you, and pull the paper out in the

direction as
shown in Figure 3-17.
Note
Never pull out the jammed paper in the opposite direction
from the ejection side of the printer.

(6) Press down the print head cover after confirming that
the print head is at the center of the printer. If the print
head is not at the center of the printer, bring it to the
center by holding the carriage.
Note
Do not touch the print head, as it can be very hot after
printing continuously.
3.2 MAINTENANCE
For optimal printer performance over the longest possible
period and to prevent problems, it is important to maintain
the printer as described below.
3.2.1 Periodic Checks
The only user maintenance required on a regular basis is to
follow the precautions described in Section 3.1,
Handling.
Table 3-1 describes periodic maintenance, which should
be performed only by experienced persons who specialize
in printers.

Clean the mechanism unit thoroughly with a
vacuum cleaner.
Remove any pieces of paper from the paper
path.
Replace any deformed springs.
Lubricate the points listed in Table 3-2,

Installing and remov-
ing the ribbon cassette.
Replace the ribbon cassette if it is not the one
specified or its print quality is poor.
Replace the ribbon cassette.

Standards
No dust, paper particles, or dirt should be allowed
to build up on or in the mechanism unit. No foreign
materials should be in the printer.
No small pieces of paper should be left in the
paper path.
No spring should be bent or deformed.
Refer to Section 3.2.3,
Lubrication.
The ribbon cassette should be properly installed
on the ribbon frame assembly.
The ribbon cassette should be the one specified in
this manual.
The ribbon should never be reinked.
When each printer component is observed, no
abnormalities should be found.
