INSTALLATION TESTING
This section discusses issues connected with testing the installation.
14.1
Cable testing
Test the power cables before connecting them to the central processing unit so as to
ensure that the devices are not damaged during installation. A multimeter can be used
for this purpose.
The testing methods ensure that the cables have been connected correctly:
1. Grounding (GND)
●
One of the multimeter wires is connected to the grounding cable and the other to
the frame of the vehicle.
●
The connection is ensured using the continuity measurement function of the
multimeter.
2. Power supply (POWER)
●
The power supply is measured in the multimeter's voltage range when the vehicle's
ignition key is in the OFF position. The reading must be 12V (12V system) or 24V
(24V system).
3. Pre-heating
●
The power supply is measured in the multimeter's voltage range. The reading must
be 12V (12V system) or 24V (24V system).
14.2
Antenna testing
If the GPS receiver or GSM/GPRS phone does not work after installation, measure the
condition of antennas. Disconnect the power connector (POWER). Check that the
antenna cables are properly in place in the connectors and that they are intact.
To be measured using the multimeter:
1. GPS – antenna
●
Measure the connection between the signal pin and protective ground in the
multimeter's resistance range to ensure that there is no shortcut (0
Ω
) or break (
∞
Ω
i.e. infinite) between the cable's signal pin and its protective grounding.
2. GSM/GPRS – antenna
●
Measure the connection between the signal pin and protective ground in the
multimeter's resistance range to ensure that the resistance value between the signal
pin and the cable's protective grounding is
∞
Ω
i.e. infinite.
