8 Troubleshooting
8.1 Troubleshooting instructions
If any of the following problems occur, test the measuring device as indicated.

Note!
Make sure you comply with the instructions for troubleshooting in the Operating
Instructions of the transmitter. If necessary, carry out a test of the transmitter.

no sensor reaction Mains voltage to the transmitter ?
Sensor connected correctly ?
Medium flow available ?
Coating on the membrane ?
Electrolyte in the measuring chamber ?
Connect mains voltage
Set up correct connection
Create flow
Clean sensor
Fill with electrolyte or replace it
Display value too high Polarisation complete ?
Last calibration with different sensor ?
Temperature display clearly too low ?
Fast responding membrane cap
COY 31S-WP (white cap) assembled
without calibration ?
Membrane visibly stretched ?
Electrolyte soiled ?
Open sensor. Dry electrodes transmit-
ter display now at 0 ?
Reference electrode coating dis-
solved, is it silver instead of brown ?
Gold cathode silver-plated ?
Wait until polarisation time ends
Recalibrate
Check with another sensor,
if necessary send sensor in for repair
Calibrate sensor
Replace membrane cap
Replace electrolyte
Check electrical connection. If the
problem still occurs, send the sensor
in.
Send in the sensor for recoating
Clean the gold cathode
Value indicated too low Sensor calibrated ?
Medium flow available ?
Temperature display on transmitter
clearly too high ?
False membrane cap COY 31-WP
(black cap) assembled ?
Coating on the membrane ?
Electrolyte soiled?
Recalibrate
Produce flow
Check with another sensor,
if necessary send sensor in for repair
Replace cap by white membrane cap
COY 31S-WP.
Clean membrane or replace mem-
brane cap
Replace electrolyte
Strong deviations in
displayed value Membrane visibly stretched ?
Open sensor. Dry electrodes transmit-
ter display now at 0 ?
EMC interference on the
measuring system ?
Replace membrane cap
Check electrical connection. If the pro-
blem still occurs, send in the sensor.
Remove outer screening of sensor and
extension cable at terminal S.
Cut measuring and signalling lines from
h.v. power lines.
