Disposal

Typically, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) generates liquid
waste which, besides metal or heavy metal ions, mainly contains various mineral acids

that are involved in sample preparation procedures. For safe removal, such resulting

waste solutions must be neutralized using, for example, diluted sodium hydroxide
solution.
Once neutralized, such waste must be made available for proper disposal in

accordance with currently valid rules of law.
Under currently binding legislation, the PlasmaQuant MS, including its electronic

components, must be disposed as electronic waste upon decommission.
