life based on sampling frequency can be found on page 3 of the Slam Stick datasheet and in the
Battery Life & Recording Time Available section of this user manual.
NOTE:
The analog accelerometers’ sample rate will not be exactly equal to the user
specified sample rate. For example if the sample rate is configured to 10,000 Hz, the
device may actually end up sampling at 10,001.3 Hz. On the DC MEMS accelerometer the
sample rate is rounded to the nearest power of 2, starting at 12.5 Hz (25, 50, 100, 200,
400, 800, 1600, 3200).
Depending on the sampling frequency setting, the LED on the Slam Stick will flash differently
during a recording. A slower flash indicates a lower sampling frequency and a more rapid flash
indicates a higher sampling frequency. More information on LED indications can be found in the
LED Status Indication section in this user manual.
Override Antialiasing Filter Cutoff
The anti-aliasing filter contained on each Slam Stick device is used to prevent noise or other
unwanted high frequency signals from being detected in a recording. Configuring the anti-aliasing
cutoff frequency sets the upper limit for the range of frequencies that will be recorded. If a user
does not know an appropriate frequency for this configuration, it is recommended to use the
default value on the Slam Stick by unchecking the box next to this configuration.
NOTE:
Frequencies higher than the anti-aliasing cutoff frequency will be mostly filtered
out. The Slam Stick X uses a Butterworth filter, and the Slam Stick S uses a Bessel. These
each have fairly linear phase response and good amplitude roll off; but higher frequencies
will still pass through the filter, just at a reduced amplitude. The cutoff frequency defines
the frequency at which the attenuation of the signal is equal to -3 dB. See our
for more information on filtering.
Plug-in Action
If a Slam Stick is being used in an application where direct access to the device during use is not
possible, setting the plug-in action configuration will allow a user to end a recording remotely or
switch the device to USB power. This configuration setting currently has three (3) available
options:
1.
Immediately stop recording and appear as USB drive
2.
Complete recording before appearing as drive
3.
Ignore: Stop recording when button is pressed
These settings will determine what the Slam Stick does when it is plugged-in to a computer and
therefore requires a USB cable to be connected to the Slam Stick to use this setting.
NOTE:
Some users wish to remotely start/stop a recording or “press the button”
remotely. This is not explicitly available in software; but Midé can provide a custom unit
with the switch wired out.
