The small w ind t urbine is regulat ed by t he manuf act uring st andards of IEC-61400. Wit hin
t hese st andards are subcat egories of t he st andard such as IEC-61400-2, -12, -11, et c.
each feature set s t hat small w ind turbines must comply w it h robust ness, pow er curve,
noise, etc. requirement s. Compliance w ith these rules is essent ial t o ensure t hat a " small
w ind" has the qualit y required t herein. At present t here are very f ew count ries w hich
require manufacturing st andards f or w ind t urbine inst allat ions. Count ries t hat do not
require these f ulf ilment s, are exposed t o t he opt ion that any t ype of home w ind t urbine
w it hout saf et y and w arrant y st andards can be inst alled. This should be avoided as it
should be ensured t hat only product inst allat ions w it h high perf ormance and reliabilit y are
inst alled.
Beaufort scale is a scale used globally t o est ablish measures commonly used as a ref erence
f or assigning names t o cert ain current s of w ind. This scale is import ant t o keep in mind,
especially f rom grade 8 upw ards, at w hich the w ind can cause damage t o the w ind t urbine
by sw irling object .
