6.2 Not recommended mounting locations of the smoke
detector
Mounting the smoke detector on a wrong place can cause false alarms making the
system less reliable. Do not install a smoke sensor in these areas
1.
Areas where combustion takes place, like a kitchen with few windows or poor
ventilation. But also a garage, near furnaces, hot water heaters and pace
heaters.
2.
Do not install smoke detectors less than 6 meters from a combustion source, like
a small kitchen. If possible mount the smoke detector to a wall (instead of the
ceiling) and provide good ventilation.

Note that are streams are passing by from kitchens causing a smoke sensor in
the hallway nearby to sense smoke. See the image below for a proper mounting
location.
