Chapter 6:
EtherNet/IP Machine Adapter
6.1
EtherNet/IP Machine Adapter Architecture
EtherNet/IP is an open, industry standard network protocol used by many industrial devices to
communicate over Ethernet networks. The EtherNet/IP Machine Adapter enables a Field Agent to read
data from an EtherNet/IP Field Device using either the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) or the
Programmable Controller Communication Commands (PCCC) protocol and make this industrial data
available to the Predix Machine platform and Predix Cloud.

Supported File Types
Supported file types when sending PCCC commands
The file type defines the type of data that a memory location contains, such as binary, integer, floating-
point, input, output, timer, counter, control, and so forth. The supported file types when sending PCCC
commands are as follows:
•
Binary (Ex: B3:1.0)
•
Integer (Ex: N7:0 or N7[0])
•
Float (Ex: F8:0)
•
Input (Ex: I1:0.0)
•
Output (Ex: O1:0.0)
•
Timer (Ex: T4:0.DN)
•
Counter (Ex: C5:0.DN)
•
Control (Ex: R6:0.DN)
