• the ECR reports that the printer head is up
incorrect HS signal
– check the connexion
– check the proper position of the head lifting mecha-
nism
– use the multi-meter to measure the HS voltage value
(head up state is approx. 0 V, normal state is approx.
5 V provided VCC1 power supply is functioning
– check the VCC1 power supply voltage
– check, event. replace R53
damaged head position sensor
– replace the printer
• the ECR reports overheated head
incorrect TS signal
– check the connexion
– use the multi-meter to measure the TS signal voltage
(at room temperature its value is approx. 2 V pro-
vided VCC1 is functioning; signal voltage decreases
with raising environment temperature)
– check, event. replace R37
6.4 Display troubleshooting
• the displays do not display at all or display all their segments
incorrect connexion between main PCB and Intercon PCB
–
check the plugging of
the PR&DISP1 connector on the main PCB and the
connecting cable integrity as well
incorrect connexion between Intercon PCB and the customer display
–
check the plug-
ging of the customer display connector and check
the connecting cable integrity
damaged display module
– replace the entire module for customer or cashier
display
error on main PCB
– check the ECR according to chapters 6.1 and 6.2
6.5 Keyboard troubleshooting
• some key doesn’t work at all or very irregularly
damaged silicon keyboard padding
– replace the silicon padding
damaged conductive carbon pad
– replace the entire keyboard, best also replace the
silicon padding
• larger group of keys doesn’t react
damaged 16-wire FCC connecting cable
– inspect thoroughly, event. replace the connecting
cable
damaged circuits on the keyboard PCB
– replace diodes D1 – D8 and U1 circuit, event. replace
the entire keyboard PCB
• the ECR doesn’t react to any of pressed keys (the time is displayed correctly)
damaged 16-wire FCC connecting cable
– inspect thoroughly, event. replace the connecting
cable
damaged keyboard module
– replace the entire module
damaged keyboard scanning circuit
– replace U20 circuit
• the ECR doesn’t react to any of pressed keys (ECR displays erroneous data or nothing at all; static
time)
the malfunction cause doesn’t originate in the keyboard
– turn to chapter 6.1
