3. DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTIONS
Drying and regeneration occur concurrently in two separate chambers. First the compressed air is cooled in
the cooler with forced circulation and is filtered and dried in the first chamber. Within the second chamber,
the desiccant inside the chamber is regenerated by the dry air supplied from the first chamber and all
removed condensate water is drained from the chamber.
The mode of each chamber changes in regular cycles and the drying and regeneration processes are then
performed in the alternate chamber.
The air used for regeneration will reduce the amount of available
air and this must be considered when selecting a compressed air source.
The quantity of air used is
around 30% (regene switching the chambers) of the air supplied by the compressor,
and in order to
secure a the high performance of the dryer and the lifespan on the desiccant, the compressor must
be connected to a source of air that is capable of supplying air during maximum demand at the
switching on and off pressures or cyclical operations.
The dried air at the outlet from the drying chamber
is removed of any solid particles down to a diameter of 5 µm. This prevents the condensation of water
vapour, the spread of micro-organisms and corrosion and decreases wear and tear on equipment.
Interrupted operation within the defined mode of operation must be secured to ensure the long-term reliability
of dryer operations.
