Section 2
Calibration and Measurement
Before transferring from one solution to another, always rinse the
cell in de-ionised water and blot dry. Use a calibration solution
with a conductivity as close to the expected sample value as possi
ble.
l.
Connect the cell to the meter and switch on using the on/off
switch.
2.
Select the range that is most apprnpriate for the calibration
solution in use e.g. for 0.0IMKCl, which has a conductivity
of1413µS/cm at 25
°
C, select the 2mS/cm range.
3.
Place the cell in the calibration solution and wait for the
reading to stabilise. (Gentle stirring may be necessary to
dislodge trapped air bubbles).
4.
When the reading is stable, adjust the value to that of the
standard using a screwdriver to tum the calibration screw on
the side of the meter.
5.
Transfer the cell to the sample and record the stabilised
reading.
Using Conductivity Cells with Constant val
ue other that 1/cm
Cells of different constants may be used to increase the measure
ment range.
•
For cell constants greater than Kl/cm, multiply the dis
played reading by the cell constant.
•
For cell constants less that KJ/cm, divide the displayed
reading by the cell constant.
Refer to Appendix l for help in selecting the cell constant.
