1.7 Sound levels
The sound developed during an arc fault event is significant and is
not completely predictable due to the nature of the arc fault. Sound
is dramatically affected by surrounding structures, buildings, and
equipment, so testing can’t be done for all possible circumstances.
Sound levels were measured at various distances from the end of a
2-meter-long duct during 50kA arc fault events and used to generate
the guidelines tabulated below. Please review the table and deter-
mine the correct PPE required by personnel in the vicinity of the
equipment for your installation.

1.8 Modifications to equipment
Any modifications to the equipment outside of the assembly instruc-
tions in Eaton documentation compromises compliance with ANSI/
IEEE C37.20.7-2017.
Low voltage doors are the only parts that may be modified in an arc
resistant lineup. Please contact your Eaton representative with any
related questions.
1.9 Documentation reference
These instructions cover aspects of the equipment particular to its
arc resistant enclosure. This document must be used in conjunction
with the following instructions specific to the type of starter being
installed:
IB48041:
AMPGARD 400 A Motor Starters (not arc resistant);
IB48043:
AMPGARD 800 A Motor Starters (not arc resistant); and
IB020003:
AMPGARD RVSS Soft Starters.
You may also wish to refer to the following document:
IB02201001E
: VCP-W Arc Resistant Switchgear.
For further information on installation and application, refer to the
applicable technical data, publications, and/or industry standards.

m
CAUTION
THE ARC RESISTANT RATING OF THE EQUIPMENT IS ONLY VALID WHEN
ALL THE COVERS AND DOORS ARE PROPERLY SECURED (EXCEPT FOR LOW
VOLTAGE DOORS) OVER THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF ANY GIVEN LINEUP.
WHEN WORKING ON A MEDIUM VOLTAGE ENCLOSURE, EVEN THOUGH
THE ENCLOSURE IS ISOLATED ELECTRICALLY, PERSONNEL WILL NOT BE
PROTECTED AGAINST AN ARC FAULT AND MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE
PPE.
m
CAUTION
BEFORE ENERGIZING THE EQUIPMENT ENSURE THAT:
• THE EQUIPMENT IS SECURED ON A TRUE AND LEVEL SURFACE;.
• CONFIRM THAT ALL THE HARDWARE IS IN PLACE AND TORQUED PER
SPECIFIED VALUES;.
• CONFIRM NO TOOLS OR OBJECTS ARE LEFT INSIDE THE ENCLOSURE;
AND
• CONFIRM ALL COVERS, DEVICES, DOORS, PANELS ETC. ARE SECURED.
