Freezing Danger:
Also of concern is the freezing temperature of the battery electrolyte. The electrolyte is a sulfuric acid mixture.
This mixture contains water and will freeze at a low enough temperature. As the battery is discharged, the elec-
trolyte mixture loses its acidity and therefore freezes at a higher temperature. In cold weather a battery should
always be stored with an acceptable level of charge. A discharged battery can freeze at low temperatures which
will result in severe damage to the battery. The below chart shows the relationship between state of charge and
freezing temperature of the electrolyte.
