SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION AND OPERATION
1.1 SCOPE OF MANUAL
This service manual provides installation, opera-
tion, programming, service, and alignment informa-
tion for the VIKING VX-SU82, PN 242-2008-332.
1.2 DESCRIPTION
The VIKING VX-SU82 operates on the 800
MHz channels from 851-869 MHz (transmit). The
receive frequencies are 45 MHz below these frequen-
cies (806-824 MHz). Channel spacing is 25 kHz and
RF power output is adjustable from 25 to 75 watts.
This Universal Station is modular in design for
ease of service. There are separate assemblies for the
logic, RF and power amplifier and power supply sec-
tions.
The Universal Station is programmed with a lap
top or personal computer using the repeater software,
Part No. 023-9998-297.
The VIKING VX-SU82 interfaces with a third
party controller. All signal ports used to interface to
the repeater are on J2 located at the back of the cabi-
net.
1.3 MODEL NUMBER BREAKDOWN
The following breakdown shows the part num-
ber scheme used for the VIKING VX-SU82.
1.4 IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
The Universal Station identification number is
printed on a label that is affixed to the inside of the
repeater cabinet. The following information is con-
tained in that number:

- This cable provides the
connectors for the Universal Station and a computer.
The cable is used during programming and monitoring
Universal Station activity at the site.
Extender Card
- Used to extend the cards plugged
into the backplane beyond the card rack enclosure.
This is used when tuning the Universal Station and
while troubleshooting.
Extender Cable Kit
- These are seven foot extension
cables for the RF Transceiver power and data. These
cables are used when the transceiver is removed from
the cabinet.
Rack Self Supporting
- Accommodates from one to
five Universal Stations mounted on vertical columns.
Also provides space for combiners and duplexers.
Combiner Coaxial Protector
- This accessory pro-
vides lightning and static suppression in-line between
the antenna and combiner.
Isolator
- Allows RF energy to pass through in one di-
rection with very little loss, but absorbs RF power in
the other direction.
External Speaker/Microphone
- This is a speaker and
microphone combination that plugs into the TPI con-
nectors. The microphone provides local audio and
push-to-talk, while the speaker provides local audio ad-
