upper part of the filter holder handle with your thumb; you can also hold it in place when turning
it upside-down by pushing the latch forward with your thumb).

Before removing the cover of the water tank and the filter holder from the appliance, possibly before pouring
another dose of water into the water tank, needed for the next brew, always disconnect the appliance by
pulling out of the mains cable plug from, the wall socket.
Preparing cappuccino:
1. As well as preparing espresso, this appliance can create steamed milk for making a cappuccino.
2. Pour the amount of water specified for espresso making into the water tank (the quantity necessary to make
2 or 4 cups) plus 0.5-1 cup of water for making steam. Use the markings for water quantities on the side of
the jug as described in the procedure "To make espresso coffee".
3. Pour about 100ml skimmed milk into a long, narrow heat-resistant jug that can fit under the steam pipe.
The milk and the jug should both be cold. The milk will expand in volume almost three-fold when it is heated;
make sure the jug is large enough to allow the milk to expand.
4. When you are making espresso coffee, the extra water poured in to make steam can be used to froth milk.
Follow the same procedure as when making espresso coffee. When the first drops of espresso coffee drip to
the bottom of the jug, start frothing the milk as follows: put the end of the steam wand into a heat resistant
jug half filled with milk. Make sure that the nozzle is only half immersed in the milk. When the espresso
coffee starts to flow into the jug, turn the control button of the espresso maker counterclockwise to the steam
making position. Always maintain the jug in a vertical position during frothing, and move it gently up and
down. When frothing is finished, set the control button to the middle "0" position. The flow of the steam into
the milk gives off a characteristic sound indicating that the operation is being carried out correctly.
•
Follow these steps for the best frothing results and to achieve the desired froth consistency:
a) Pour a quarter to a half cup of cold milk into a heat resistant jug. Do not fill the jug over halfway.
b) Froth the milk as described above for not more than 20-45 seconds. The less milk you use, the shorter the
time required for frothing.
c) Set the control button of the espresso maker to "0" before removing the steam wand from the milk to avoid
splattering. The amount of froth will be 50-100% of the amount of milk used.
Steaming
If you want to heat up leftover coffee using hot steam, or to froth milk separately, you can use the espresso maker
to produce steam without having to make coffee.
1. Pour water (the quantity indicated by the steam symbol at the side of the jug) into the espresso maker's
water tank, ensuring the machine has been switched off. This water will produce enough steam to reheat the
coffee.

Attention:
• If you only want to make steam, it is very important not to pour more water into the water tank
than the quantity marked by the number 2 on the side of the jug,
• You must be present to continuously supervise the appliance when making steam, so do not
leave the appliance unattended for any length of time until after you have finished making
steam and have turned it off.
2. Prepare the jug with the cold milk or coffee to be steamed.
3. Turn the control button of the espresso unit counterclockwise to the steam making function.
4. Put the jug under the nozzle of the steam wand and turn on the appliance.
5. Wait for about one minute for the steam to start.
6. Froth the milk or reheat the coffee as described in cappuccino making. When the frothing or steaming has
been completed, let the remaining steam out into a jar and when the steam flow has stopped, turn the
control button to "0" and turn off the appliance.
Important information:
•
We recommend that you clean the end of the steam pipe immediately after use to avoid any deposits forming
on it. Take great care when the appliance is still hot.
•
Always remove coffee residue from the filter after the appliance has cooled down. This should only be done
when the power has been disconnected.
•
Consume your coffee as soon as possible; it can lose its flavour or become sour after a while.
•
Never leave water in the water tank when the appliance isn’t being used.
•
Only use water (or concentrated lemon juice for cleaning purposes, as detailed later) in the water tank. Never
pour any other liquid into the tank. Don’t ever pour previously-brewed coffee into the tank!
•
Regularly clean and de-scale the coffee maker.
How to use the filter coffee maker
1. Lift the water tank lid (part no.1) to access the filter coffee maker's water tank (part no.11).
2. Pour the required quantity of fresh, cold water into the water tank. The filter coffee maker can make a
maximum of 10 servings at any one time. Pour in the water using the jug with measure markings on the side.
Never overfill the water tank by putting in more water than fills the jug to the "MAX" marking,
which corresponds to 10 cups of coffee (about 1.1 litres of water).
3. Pour in the water and close the lid. Open the hinged filter holder (part no.12) to the right. When making filter
coffee, use either the re-usable filter (part no. 21) or a commercially available paper filter. If using a paper
filter, first remove the re-usable filter from the filter holder. Open up a standard "1x4" size filter paper into a
cone shape and put it carefully in the filter holder.
