General safety notes
Before using this product, carefully read these Instructions for Use and those of the
associated products.
Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. The user must fully understand and strictly observe
the instructions. Use the product only for the purposes specified in the Intended use section
of this document.
Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that they are retained and appropriately
used by the product user.
Only trained and competent users are permitted to use this product.
Comply with all local and national rules and regulations associated with this product.
Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to inspect, repair and service the
product as detailed in these Instructions for Use (see "Maintenance" on page 21). Further
maintenance work that is not detailed in these Instructions for Use must only be carried out
by Dräger or personnel qualified by Dräger. Dräger recommend a Dräger service contract
for all maintenance activities.
Use only genuine Dräger spare parts and accessories, or the proper functioning of the
product may be impaired.
Do not use a faulty or incomplete product and do not modify the product.
Notify Dräger in the event of any component fault or failure.
Safe coupling with electrical devices
Electrical connections to devices which are not listed in these Instructions for Use should only
be made following consultation with the respective manufacturers or an expert.
Use in areas subject to explosion hazards
Devices or components for use in explosion-hazard areas which have been tested and
approved according to national, European or international Explosion Protection Regulations
may only be used under the conditions specified in the approval and with consideration of the
relevant legal regulations. The equipment or components may not be modified in any manner.
The use of faulty or incomplete parts is forbidden. The appropriate regulations must be
observed at all times when carrying out repairs on these devices or components.
Definitions of alert icons
The following alert icons are used in this document to provide and highlight areas of the
associated text that require a greater awareness by the user. A definition of the meaning of
each icon is as follows:
Intended use
Dräger PIR 7000 infrared gas transmitter
– For continuous fixed monitoring of concentrations of flammable gases and vapours
containing hydrocarbons in a suitable atmosphere.

– For continuous fixed monitoring of carbon dioxide concentrations in the ambient air.
With analogue 4 to 20 mA output signal for measuring mode, bidirectional serial port and
HART

port for configuration and measuring mode (optional).
Suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions (e.g. offshore).
Can be installed in zone 1 ,2 or 21, 22 hazardous areas corresponding to device category 2G,
3G or 2D, 3D or Class I or II, Div. 1 or 2 hazardous areas.
In connection with a central device (e.g. Dräger REGARD):
– warning before explosive concentrations level is reached.
– Automatic initiation of countermeasures which avert the explosion hazard (e.g. switching
on ventilation).
– Device error warning.
– Special calibration mode (blocking of alarm triggering, one-man calibration).
In combination with the Dräger Polytron 57x0 / Dräger Polytron 87x0 operating and
display devices
(see Dräger Polytron 57x0 / Dräger Polytron 87x0 Instructions for Use):
– Display of measured value.
– Configuration of the gas transmitter.
