Intended use
The e-Box Polytron 5000/8000 is required for the electrical
installation of the Dräger Polytron 5000/8000 for assembly with
the "Increased safety" connection type. It is suitable for wall
mounting, ceiling mounting or in combination with the Duct
Mount Kit Polytron 5000/8000 or Duct Mount Kit (PIR 7000)
Polytron 5000/8000 also for duct mounting.
The e-Box Polytron 5000/8000 is inteded for installation either
in hazardous areas of zone 1, 2 or 21, 22 according to device
categories 2G, 3G or 2D, 3D or class I or II, Div. 1 or 2
hazardous areas.

Mounting
2.1
Wall or ceiling mounting
1. Drill mounting holes for the e-Box (fig 1).
2. Fit the e-Box in the intended position using 4 screws
M6 x 10.
2.2
Duct mounting

Mounting in accordance with the Assembly Instructions for
the Duct Mount Kit Polytron 5000/8000 or Duct Mount Kit
(PIR 7000) Polytron 5000/8000.

Installation
z
When installed at locations exceeding ambient tempera-
tures of 65 °C (149 °F), use only appropriate wiring, speci-
fied for at least 5 °C (41 °F) above the maximum ambient
temperature.
z
Strip wire insulation by 5-7 mm/0.2-0.27".
z
Limitations for the use of daisy-chained gas transmitters
(HART daisy chain): 2 flexible wires, wire diameter 1 mm
2
(crimped together with ferrule within on cage clamp).
1. Unscrew the pre-assembly lid.
2. Run the cable (permissible diameter range: 7-12 mm/0.27-
0.47") through the relevant cable entry (M20) and connect
it to the terminal block:

3. Remove the locking pin (1, fig. 2a) from the hinged bracket.
4. Position the transmitter (1, fig. 2a/3a) onto the e-Box
(4, fig. 2a/3a) so that the hinge is seated in the hinged
bracket.
5. Insert the locking pin into the hinged bracket.
6. With remote version, relay version: Remove protective
cover and connect the remote or relay connections to the
terminal block (see connection plan 3b). Re-install
protective cover.
7. Connect the electrical connection of the transmitter to the
e-Box:

8. Connect ground wire to ground connection (9, fig 2b/3b).

The electrical installation must only be carried out by
experts.
During installation, all wiring must conform to relevant,
applicable national and local regulations relating to the
installation of electrical equipment, including but not
limited to any regulations governing installation in
potentially explosive or otherwise hazardous areas. In
case of any doubt, obtain the relevant information from
the appropriate official body before carrying out the
installation.
CAUTION
Do not connect the unit to the mains before the electri-
cal installation is complete and has been checked.
Do not pull on cables to unplug!

NOTICE
For installation of the conductors onto the terminal
block, a screwdriver or the special tool enclosed is
required (fig. 4).
CAUTION
Seal all unused cable openings (3, fig. 3a) on the e-
Box using approved plugs.
