EVOLUTION LX
SYSTEM MANUAL Issue 1.0 5 DEC 2009
PRINTER ADDED FEATURES
The LX series of printers have an added feature not found in the normal HP
based Evolution products. To understand these features a brief description is
required.
The HP style print head contains two columns, each containing 150 nozzles in
the vertical direction. The spacing between the two columns is approximately
0.140” (3.56mm). The EV products use only one column, and inks have been
developed to provide an optical density at 300 DPI comparable to lesser quality
inks requiring printing at 600 DPI. Printing at 600 DPI also requires an encoder to
accurately overlay both columns.
The LX style print head has the unique feature of containing 4 columns that are
selectable under software control. The columns are arranged such that columns
1 and 2 and columns 3 and 4 are separated by 0.00083” (0.021mm). There is a
gap between the first 2 columns and the second set of two columns. This gap is
approximately 0.040” (1mm).
Since the cartridge is software controllable, the user has the option of selecting
which column or columns are to be used. It is therefore possible to fire columns 1
& 2 or columns 3 & 4. The result is a 600 DPI print without an encoder.
While in the STOPPED Mode pressing the
F1
function key followed by the
C
key,
the user may select the column or columns to print with as follows:
The system default is column 1 and may be
changed by using the
arrow keys. Notice
that the numbers 1 to 8 are selectable. Each
number represents a different column or
combinatorial.
1 = column 1 300 DPI
2 = column 2 300 DPI
3 = column 3 300 DPI
4 = column 4 300 DPI
5 = columns 1 & 2 BOLD PRINT 600 DPI
6 = columns 3 & 4 BOLD PRINT 600 DPI
7 = column 1, 2, 3, 4 automatically changing each print cycle at 300 DPI
8 = column 1&2, 3&4 automatically changing each print cycle at 600 DPI
Features 7 and 8 are special functions that are intended to circumvent inherent
problems encountered with the HP style cartridges. For example, when printing a
small character with the HP cartridge, individual firing resistors may become
ineffective before the ink in the cartridge is exhausted. Using option 7
automatically prints the message sequencing the 4 columns in the LX cartridge.
This ensures the ink in the LX cartridge is fully used without the necessity of
altering the message location to a different line as in HP units.
Those applications requiring a bolder print can use either option 5 or 6, or use
option 8 for auto sequencing.
In either 7 or 8 there will be a small gap between the start of each message.
