Congratulations on purchasing your new
refrigerator/freezer cabinet!
Please note that this user manual applies to all Derby cabinets.
The illustrations and equipment will therefore not necessarily cor-
respond completely to your model.
1 Set-up
Ensure that the cabinet is not damaged upon receipt. Transport
damage must be reported to your dealer no later than 24 hours af-
ter delivery.
The cabinet should be taken into a dry room at normal room tem-
perature with adequate air circulation. Position the cabinet so that
there is unrestricted air circulation around the freezer, i.e., so that
there is a gap of at least 50 mm on all sides.
Never place the cabinet in direct sunlight. The cabinet should be
set up on a level surface and should stand with free circulation
around it.
If the cabinet has been stored or transported cold, do not attempt
to start it until the compressor has reached a temperature of at
least +5°C. Before the cabinet is started, washing is recommen-
ded. (See Section 6 Maintenance).
If the cabinet on the machine sign is marked Class 04, it should
not be set up in a higher ambient temperature than +30°C.
If the cabinet is marked Class 4+, it can handle an ambient tempe-
rature of up to +35°C.
If it is marked Class 05, it can handle an ambient temperature of
up to +40°C.
Reversal of door:
If you want to reverse the door on the cabinet so that it opens to
the other side, do the following:
Remove the plug from the mains socket. Remove the grille. Loo-
sen the top hinge by loosening and removing the two screws, pull
the hinge out and put it aside. Lift the door off the lower hinge and
put it aside. Dismantle the lower hinge and move it to the other
side and move the cover from the other side to where the hinge
was. Move the cover stopper for the top hinge to the other side.
Rotate the door 180° and place it on the bottom hinge. Place the
top hinge on the door, push it into the track on the cabinet and se-
cure with the two screws.
Remove the Derby logo, which is now upside down, from the door
and fit a new one.
On the CD/CP models the end covers on the canopy must be
dismantled. Here the lock nut should first be loosened and the top
hinge bolt on the top of the door should be removed. When the
door has been reversed, the bolt and lock nut must be fitted again
as should the end covers on the canopy. Otherwise the procedure
is the same as for the standard cabinets.
Note that if your cabinet is equipped with a lock, this should be
dismantled before door reversal can be carried out.
Unfortunately, door reversal is not possible on Global 8FD/48FD.
Here the door is replaced by a new, left-hung door. Your dealer
can assist you.
2 Electrical connection
The appliance complies with EU requirements for radio noise sup-
pression in accordance with Directive 82/499/EEC.
The cabinet should be connected to a socket rated at the correct
voltage and frequency. This is specified on the manufacturer’s pla-
te on the back of the cabinet. The normal voltage for Europe is
230V/50Hz. Voltage variations of +/- 10% are acceptable. Larger
variations can damage the cabinet and in such cases the factory
guarantee will be void. Your local dealer will be able to assist with
information on extreme over/undervoltage variations.
This cabinet must be given additional protection in accordance
with the applicable power regulations. This also applies even in the
case of a replacement of an existing freezer that has not had addi-
tional protection. The purpose of the additional protection is to pro-
tect users from dangerous electrical shocks in case of defects.
In homes built after 1 April 1975, all sockets in kitchens and any
utility rooms will comply with additional protection.
In both situations, the following must be carried out:
•
if the socket has three holes, use a three-pronged plug, and
the wire with green/yellow insulation must be connected to
the earth terminal.
•
If the socket has only two holes, use only a two-pronged
plug. If the user fits this him/herself, the wire with the
green/yellow insulation must be clipped as closely as pos-
sible to the place where the wire enters the plug.
In other situations, the user should use an authorised electrician
check to see how you can protect your cabinet in the best way.
The Electricity Council recommends that extra protection is provi-
ded with a high-sensitivity earth fault circuit breaker.
3 Operation
The temperature in the cabinet is automatically controlled by the
adjustable thermostat.
Adjusting the thermostat:
On the G8 models the thermostat is located on the back at the bot-
tom.
On the G18 models the thermostat is located on the front at the
bottom.
On the G48 refrigerator models the thermostat is located on the in-
side of the cabinet's fan screen at the top of the cabinet.
On the G48 freezer models the thermostat is located behind the
front grille at the bottom of the front of the cabinet.
The thermostat should be rotated clockwise in order to reduce the
temperature.
The thermostat is set at a middle temperature. However, the tem-
perature of the bottle cooler must be adjusted after set-up with a
