7.8 How the CO2 flipper works
The flipper is a modern, highly effective CO2 diffuser. It ensures that the valuable CO2 fertilizer is used to the best possible
effect.
While the CO2 bubbles slowly rise inside the flipper, the CO2 dissolves in the aquarium water. At the same time, other gases
naturally dissolved in the aquarium water penetrate the CO2 bubbles. These so-called waste gases are the reason why the
bubbles become smaller towards the top, but do not dissolve completely.
The waste gases are significantly lighter than the relatively heavy CO2, which causes them to collect in the CO2 collection tank
at the top. Here they are regularly removed by the special
waste gas vent.
The running-in period of the flipper is about 2 days.
Initially the individual CO2 bubbles combine to form larger bubbles.
As soon as a biological surface of micro-organisms has formed, the bubbles run through to the collection tank.
8 What to do if... – Troubleshooting
Errors
Cause
Solution
A quiet hissing can be heard at the
screw connection of the pressure
reducer and CO2 bottle
Pressure reducer is screwed on at an
angle or not tight enough
Seal in pressure reducer is dirty or
defective
Seal in adapter is dirty or defective
Unscrew the pressure reducer and
screw it back on straight.
Clean the sealing surfaces.
Replace the seal if necessary (Dennerle
After-Sales Service).
Clean the sealing surfaces.
Replace the seal if necessary.
No more bubbles on the CO2 diffuser
Magnet valve closed
CO2 bottle empty
Operating pressure too low
Hose connection leaking
Needle valve closed
Open the magnet valve.
Replace the CO2 bottle.
Increase the operating pressure.
Check the hose connections and
replace if necessary.
Open the needle valve.
CO2 bubbles getting stuck in the flipper Flipper is still in the running-in phase
Obstacles on the connector (snails,
algae)
Bottom suction cup not tight against
glass
Wait for the end of the running-in
phase.
Clean the area.
Clean the glass, press the suction cup
firmly in place
Gas escapes from the side of the
collection tank
Flipper not mounted vertically
Waste gas vent (slit) dirty
Mount the flipper vertically.
Clean the area.
9 Add-ons for CO2 fertilization systems
Level 1:
CO2 night cut-off valve:
In combination with a
Dennerle CO2 magnet valve
, a time switch can be used
to stop the CO2 supply during the night, as plants do not consume CO2 at night. This provides a way to save
valuable CO2.
Level 2:
Fully automatic:
The
Dennerle pH controller Evolution
measures the pH value in the aquarium on
an ongoing basis and regulates the addition of CO2 precisely and fully automatically via the
CO2 magnet
valve
.
