5.4 Setting up the appliance
Please note :
• Coffee has been used to factory test the appliance and it is
therefore completely normal for there to be traces of cof-
fee in the mill. The machine is, however, guaranteed to be
new.
• You should customise water hardness as soon as possible
following the Instruction for use in the “18 Setting water
hardness” section.
Proceed as described:
1. Remove the water tank (A18- fig. 1), fill to the MAX line
with fresh water (fig. 2) then put back in the appliance.
2. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 100 ml
under the cappuccino maker (A7) (fig. 3).
3. Plug the appliance into the mains socket and press the
main switch (A15) on the side of the appliance (fig. 4).
4. The
icon (B12- fig. 5) flashes on the touch screen.
5. Turn the steam dial to the “
I
” position (fig. 6). Water is de-
livered from the cappuccino maker.
6. When delivery stops automatically, turn the steam dial
back to the “O” position.
The appliance goes off.
To reuse it, press the
button (A5 - fig. 7) again.
Please note :
• The first time you use the appliance, you need to make 4-5
cups of coffee before the appliance starts to give satisfac-
tory results.
6. TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON
Please note!
• Before turning the appliance on, make sure the main
switch (A15) is pressed (fig. 4).
• Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an auto-
matic preheat and rinse cycle which cannot be interrupted.
The appliance is ready for use only after completion of this
cycle.
Danger of burns!
During rinsing, a little hot water comes out of the coffee spouts
(A9) and is collected in the drip tray (A13) underneath. Avoid
contact with splashes of water.
• To turn the appliance on, press the button
(A5-fig.
7): the light
(B3) flashes while the appliance is heating
up and performing an automatic rinse cycle. By circulating
hot water, the appliance heats both the boiler and the in-
ternal circuits.
The appliance is at temperature when the light goes off and
the coffee lights come on.
7. TURNING THE APPLIANCE OFF
Whenever the coffee machine is turned off after being used to
make coffee, it performs an automatic rinse cycle.
Danger of burns!

• To turn the appliance off, press the button
(A5- fig.
7).
• The light (B3) flashes on the control panel to indicate
the appliance is going off.
Please note!
If you will not be using the appliance for some time, unplug
from the mains socket:
• first turn the appliance off by pressing the
button
(fig. 7).
• Press the main switch (A15) on the side of the appliance
(fig. 4).
Important!
Never press the main switch while the appliance is on.
8. SETTING WATER HARDNESS
For Instruction for use on setting water hardness, see chapter
18.
9. SETTING TEMPERATURE SECTION
If you want to modify the temperature of the water used to
make the coffee (low, medium, high, maximum), proceed as
follows:
1. With the appliance off (standby), but the main switch
(A15) pressed (fig. 4).
2. Press and hold the icon
(B2) until the lights and icons
on the touch screen (B) come on.
3. Press the icon
(B13) to select the required
temperature:
low
medium
high
maximum
4. Press the
icon (B12) to confirm (or
(B10) to exit
without making the modification). The lights/icons go off.
The temperature is now programmed.
