5. Contacting of the conductor end
The connection element is used for connecting the
HVI
®
conductors light
to the connecting plate of
the insulating pipe and to the air-termination system /metal capping.
If required, the conductor has to be cut to length on site. The
HVI
®
conductor light
has to be prepared
for contacting the connection element as shown in Fig. 9.
Cable shears can be used to cut the
HVI
®
conductor light
to length and to remove the coating. The
entire coating has to be shortened by 30 mm. The dark-grey coating of the
HVI
®
conductor light
has
to be shortened by another 15 mm so that the underlying semiconducting black coating can be contacted
(see Fig. 9). The black coating may not be damaged.
The connection element has to be rotated to insert the
HVI
®
conductor light
into the connection
element. The two threaded pins (thightening torque of 5 Nm) allow for safe contacting. Subsequently,
the heat-shrinkable sleeve is shrinked on (see Fig. 9 on the right).
