Computer Charting
There are multiple chart plotters on board Lioness. This provides
backup/redundancy for the navigation on board. Remember that electronic
navigation is not a replacement for paper charts, but both methods should
be used together.
Please be sure that the switches are turned on at the main electrical panel
and navigation sub-panel behind the wheel.
The Garmin 7610 is the main electronic navigation unit for the vessel. Press
menu.
The Garmin 7607 is an additional display and is set up to be moved to the
fly bridge when needed. The Garmin units can display both AIS and radar to
monitor other vessels.
Furuno 3 is the wind speed and apparent wind direction on the small display
to the left of the other units. Please do not change this display.
The Lowrance unit is a backup plotter for the PH. It has its own GPS
antenna and navigation charts so it can function independently of the
Garmin.
VHF Radios

whenever operating the vessel. We keep the starboard
radio on channel 16 and the port radio on scan. The
starboard radio is also equipped with an AIS receiver as a
backup to the AIS in the Furuno chart plotter. When
Lioness crosses into or out of Canada change to the Canadian mode.

radios from the charger on the chart table.
Heating System
Lioness is equipped with an Espar heating system. The system is a diesel
fired on the port side of the engine room. There is one thermostat near the
