Chapter 4: Printing Cards
Before Starting to Print
This section explains how to print a card. Make sure that:
z
The correct cards are loaded in the printer or available to insert.
z
Ribbon is loaded in the printer. For the steps to follow, refer to “Load the Print Ribbon” on
page 20 .
z
The card design is set up. If you need to set up or modify the design, refer to “Elements of
Card Design” in your printer’s Installation and Administrator’s Guide.

Make sure that magnetic stripe cards are loaded correctly. The printer shows the correct
position.
z
Do not touch the card surface to be printed. Handle cards by their edges or wear gloves.
z
When you print rewritable cards, insert the cards one at a time. The erase/rewrite process
can cause the cards to bend slightly, and can prevent them from being picked.
You also can:
z
Print a test card directly from the printer. Refer to “Print a Test Card” on page 18.
z
P rint a driver sample card. Refer to “Printing a Driver Sample Card” in your card printer’s
Driver Guide.
If you are printing a rewritable card, you must remove the print ribbon from the
ribbon cartridge and replace the cartridge in the printer. Refer to “Prepare the
Printer to Print Rewritable Cards” on page 22 for more information about setting
up the printer to print a rewritable card.
